life in Kaldera

Bektas Village is on the North Aegean coast where people live by fishing and by tending sheep and olive groves.

We came to Bektas Village in year 2000, bought a land of 6000m2 (~1.5 acres) which had olive and oak trees in it. We started living in it immediately.

Since then we planted over 100 trees, a 30 root vineyard and established a herb and vegetable garden

Kaldera Guesthouse was completed in year 2004 and started accepting its guests that same summer.

In Kaldera we honor the nature we live in and try our best to replace what we take out of the nature. We support most of our consumption with our production. Our products include olives, olive oil, soap, organic fruit, vegetables, herbs, jams and preserves.

Our landscaped garden with its botanic variety and our pond aim to support wildlife during drought season. We reuse, recycle and compost to minimize our waste and our burden to the environment.

We attempted to create an atmosphere where our guests would feel free to actively participate in the life of Kaldera.

In Kaldera the olive harvesting time is November through January.

Our harvest supplies all of our olive oil that we use and most of our green and black olives.

In Kaldera we already had a one week ceramics workshop and a cello concert.

We aim to host various workshops and art activities on a regular basis.
Our shaded open air studio and our ceramics oven was designed for ceramics, painting and sculpting studies especially in spring months.

We will post the dates of our activities on this website.
